SERVING BOLTON SINCE 2019
SERVING BOLTON SINCE 2019
Cycling is not meant for all dogs. Certain dogs and dog breeds are built to perform high intensity cardio and some are not.
When considering your dog and dog breed we will design a running program just for them. These programs consist of long and steady or short and brisk runs that are tailored to your type of dog and their abilities.
Running is not recommended for a puppy since strenuous exercise can affect the growth of the long bones. It is a good idea to wait for a younger pet’s muscle and bone development to complete before they begin running long distances.
We also consider your dogs current activity level, age, experience, temperament and general disposition. If you have a dog that is considered low-energy, skittish, or unruly, it is possible that your dog could get injured when running alongside a bike without the proper training by the right professional. As long as your dog is willing and able to learn, then we can work with them.
Please know that some dogs do not like cycling and some thoroughly enjoy it. For those that do not, we recommend one of our other fantastic services to give them the exercise they need.
Cycling is the perfect way for your dog to get the exercise they need, but even if your dog appears to be in the best of health we recommend having your veterinarian check your dog over before starting a new exercise routine.
We also look at many different factors to asses your dogs running readiness. If your dog is excessively overweight, running is usually not the best way to begin a new routine.
If this is your dog’s first time running with us we will take the time to allow them to become familiar with the bikes movement and sounds. This will be introduced during the assessment portion of the initial meet and greet and on an ongoing basis during future workout sessions.
One of the most obvious benefits is the amount of exercise it offers your pet. Just like humans, pets need exercise to live a healthier, happier life. Running is ideal for high-energy dogs who never seem satisfied with even the longest walk or play session.
Exercise is also great stress reliever for dogs. Burning off extra energy with a cycle everyday can go a long way towards reducing problems with issues like separation anxiety or nervous tension.
You will need a good body harness with a metal (no plastic) D ring on the back with reflective tape
for added safety during night time. We do not run dogs with neck collars. Depending on the road conditions and delicate nature of their feet they may need dog shoes to help protect their pads. My dogs are used to running on road surfaces and do not need dog shoes. Some dogs do sustain injuries to their feet when running on uneven/paved surfaces. If you notice your dog favouring one paw/licking their feet they may have worn part of the pad off or have stepped on a stone and may have a bruise. Shoes can definitely help with this but they are optional. We will always check for signs of injury before and after their run and treat accordingly.
During our meet and greet I will bring different sized harnesses for your dog to try on to see what fits them comfortably. A list of recommended products will be available for purchase at Rovili's Pet World in Bolton.
